Birth & Postpartum Support
FAQs
What is the difference between a doula and a midwife?
A midwife is a medical professional who provides clinical care and delivers babies. A doula is a non-medical support person who provides emotional, physical, and informational support throughout pregnancy, labor, and the postpartum period.
Do you replace medical providers?
No. I work alongside your doctor or midwife as part of your support team. Medical decisions and clinical care always remain with your healthcare provider.
Will you speak to doctors or nurses on my behalf?
I can help you understand your options and encourage you to ask questions so you can make informed decisions. My role is to support and empower you, not to make decisions or speak for you.
Do you support VBAC families?
Absolutely. Having experienced both cesarean births and unmedicated VBACs myself, I am passionate about supporting families planning a VBAC and helping them feel informed, prepared, and confident.
Can I hire a doula even if I plan to get an epidural or c-section?
Yes. Doulas support all types of births. Whether you plan an unmedicated birth, an epidural, an induction, or a cesarean, continuous support can help you feel more confident and supported throughout the process.
How do you support partners during labor?
I help partners feel confident and involved by offering guidance, suggestions, reassurance, and practical support. My goal is not to replace your partner, but to help them better support you.
Can you take photos or videos during the birth?
Yes. These can be such sweet keepsakes to look back on. I am happy to snap footage as I am able, but my first priority will always be supporting you, so I cannot guarantee to capture the big moment.
